NEUTRALIZE STATIC ELECTRICITY

What is static electricity? How can it be eliminated?

Static Electricity is a phenomenon of electrical accumulation on the surface of materials.

This phenomenon is particularly noticeable on dielectric or non-conductive materials such as plastic, glass, paper and many other insulating materials. The manifestations of static electricity is often confusing, incoherent and difficult to reproduce. They vary according to the nature of the material, temperature, hygrometry, friction, etc…

One of the curiosities of the phenomenon is the variation of polarity + or – on the same material during manufacture or processing.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS GENERATED?

  • Sticking or attraction : Opposite polarities attract each other, which induces the sticking of sheets together, the sticking of dust on the surface of the material…
  • Repulsion: Identical polarities repel each other, hence the swelling of a bundle of textile fibres or glass fibres, impossible stacking of lids, sheets…
  • Breakdown: charged materials become true capacitors, and the electrical discharges generated during film winding (for example) can be dramatic on operators, equipment and manufactured products…

OUR SOLUTION : IONIZATION

In principle, since negative charges are due to an excess of electrons (negative ions) and positive charges are due to a lack of electrons (positive ions), charge neutralization would be achieved by having an external source of ions and electrons sufficient to stabilize the atoms of the material.

The ionization process consists of generating positive and negative ions that neutralize electrostatic charges.
